Trend: #Mermanhair

Men’s hair hasn’t received this much attention since Chuck Bass and his side path graced our screens. The side path evolved into the shaved side with side path and although preppy, it was everything at the time and then came the “manbun”. The latter was a hit but then just went to shit  it got really bad – let’s rather not talk about it. But, there’s a new trend and it’s haute!

Men are drawing inspirations from the ocean, sandcastles and coral to bring you the latest in men’s hairstyles – merman hair. Yes, it’s a thing. Guys are dyeing their hair in all shades. Some are even dyeing their lumberjack slash hipster beards!

The trend started late last year where guys were spotted in turquoise, purple and green at Coachella and then at various Pride festivals.  In my non-expert opinion, if you’re considering merman hair, make sure that:

a) the colour is right

b) consider using layers as opposed to a solid colour

c) get an experienced hairdresser to do the treatment

Merman hair is sadly not a thing here yet but I was pleasantly surprised to see local hot geek (the rarest among the male species), Grant Hinds is sporting merman hair. I am hoping that we’ll see a few more bold guys adopting this trend especially with Pride, MCQP and lovely lady summer approaching.
